My New Morning Beverage

I want to introduce you to my new favorite morning drink: a Golden Chai Tea Latte.  This is a very warming, flavorful way to start the day!  Plus it’s loaded with all kinds of good-for-you nutrients, and spices with health benefits. Tumeric, the spice that gives the drink it’s “Golden” color, is well known for it’s impressive anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. It also gives a little brain boost, which is great first thing in the morning. Black pepper is added to increase the bioavailability of all tumeric’s goodness. Ginger adds that warming kick, along with glucose control, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant components, and a boost to GI tract function. Fennel also helps with digestion, and helps satiety, so you don’t get those mid-morning hungries. The Cinnamon is mainly for flavoring, but adds it’s own antioxidant and glucose control benefits as well.  This Golden Chai Tea Latte is just loaded with good stuff!

Easy Golden Chai Tea Latte

To make this easy, I mix up a month’s worth of powdered spices, so it’s a snap to put together in the morning.  I make a cup of black tea, add a teaspoon of the Golden Chai Tea Latte powder, a tsp of honey,  a tsp of real butter, and milk to taste.   Let me mention that we use raw dairy here, which has  DHEA, Omega oils, loads of probiotic goodness, and is not considered an “inflammatory” food. If you don’t use raw dairy milk, opt for soy or almond milk, with a tsp of coconut oil over processed milk or margarine.

I’ve been drinking this for nearly a month now. I really do enjoy the taste of it, and so far no coffee withdrawal has occurred.  In the last week, I am feeling the benefits of Golden Chai Tea Lattes; I’m less sluggish, a little less achy-owie throughout the day, and my *ahem* bowel habits are more regular than usual.  I’m not sure my lattes can take all the credit, because several dietary changes are taking place in our household, but I do think it’s helped. Besides, it’s yummy!

Easy Golden Chai Latte

A powdered mix of beneficial spices to add to your cup of tea.  Makes enough powder for a cup a day for 30 days.

Ingredients

Golden Chai Powder

  • 1/2 cup Cup Tumeric
  • 1/4 Cup Cinnamon
  • 1/2 Tbsp Black Pepper
  • 3 Tbsp Ginger
  • 3 Tbsp Ground Fennel Seed
  • 1 Tbsp Vanilla Powder (Optional)

Tea Ingredients

Instructions

Golden Chai Powder

  1. Combine all ingredients and store in a sealed jar, away from sunlight. 

To Make a Latte

  1. Make your favorite tea, (black tea holds up well to the strong spices in this mix)

  2. Add 1/2 Tbsp of Golden Chai powder

  3. Add Coconut or Olive Oil and Honey

  4. Blend in a blender to make a frothy "Latte" drink, if desired

Recipe Notes

If you prefer not to have pepper in your tea, swallow a few peppercorns with your drink. Pepper improves the bioavailability of the curcumins in tumeric. 

Tumeric is fat soluable, so the butter or coconut oil also help improve bioavailability.
